What is Ayushman Bharat Yojana? (आयुष्मान भारत योजना क्या है?)

Ayushman Bharat Yojana (आयुष्मान भारत योजना), officially known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), is the world's largest government-funded health insurance scheme launched on September 23, 2018. This flagship initiative of the Government of India aims to provide financial protection and access to quality healthcare for India's poor and vulnerable population.

The yojana provides health coverage of ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization to over 50 crore beneficiaries (approximately 10.74 crore families). It is the world's largest health assurance scheme fully financed by the government, making quality healthcare accessible to all eligible citizens.

Eligibility Criteria (पात्रता मानदंड)

Eligibility for Ayushman Bharat Yojana is based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 database. Families meeting the following criteria are eligible:

Rural Families (Deprivation Criteria)

  • • Households with only one room, kutcha walls and kutcha roof
  • • No adult member between age 16 to 59 years
  • • Female-headed households with no adult male member
  • • Households with disabled member and no able-bodied adult member
  • • Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe households
  • • Landless households deriving major income from manual casual labor

Urban Workers (Occupational Criteria)

  • • Rag pickers, beggars, domestic workers
  • • Street vendors, cobblers, hawkers, street sellers
  • • Construction workers, plumbers, masons, painters, welders
  • • Transport workers, conductors, drivers, cart pullers, rickshaw pullers
  • • Mechanics, electricians, repair workers
  • • Washermen, chowkidars, sweepers, sanitation workers, gardeners
  • • Home-based workers, artisans, tailors, handicraft workers

How to Enroll in Ayushman Bharat Yojana (नामांकन प्रक्रिया)

Check Your Eligibility

Visit the official Ayushman Bharat portal at beneficiary.nha.gov.in and check if your family is eligible for the yojana. Enter your mobile number, Aadhaar number, or ration card details to verify eligibility in the SECC 2011 database.

Locate Enrollment Center

Find your nearest Common Service Center (CSC) or visit an empanelled hospital with Ayushman Mitra desk. Use the CSC locator on the official website or search for 'CSC center near me' to find the closest location for enrollment.

Prepare Required Documents

Carry your original Aadhaar card (mandatory), ration card if available, active mobile number, and details of all family members to be included in the yojana. Ensure your Aadhaar is updated with current address and phone number.

Visit Enrollment Center

Go to the CSC center or hospital Ayushman Mitra desk with your documents. The operator will verify your eligibility in the PM-JAY system and confirm your family details from the SECC 2011 database.

Complete Biometric Verification

Provide your fingerprint and photograph for biometric authentication linked to your Aadhaar. This identity verification is mandatory and takes only 2-3 minutes to complete. This ensures secure access to the yojana benefits.

Receive Your Ayushman Card

After successful verification, your Ayushman Bharat card will be printed immediately. You receive a physical card with unique Health Account Number, family details, and QR code. The card is valid for cashless treatment at all empanelled hospitals nationwide.
