No prior information or permission is needed. Simply visit any empanelled hospital with your Ayushman Card and Aadhaar. The hospital handles all inter-state billing directly with NHA.

What does cashless mean in Ayushman?

Cashless means you don't pay anything from your pocket. The hospital provides treatment and claims the cost directly from the insurance. This covers admission, surgery, medicines, tests, food, and follow-up – all at zero cost to the patient.

How long does pre-authorization take?

Pre-authorization is the hospital's request to confirm your coverage. For planned treatments, it takes 30 minutes to 6 hours. For emergencies, treatment should not be delayed – hospitals can start treatment and get post-authorization within 24 hours.

Is transport to the hospital covered?

No, transportation to the hospital is not covered under PMJAY. However, all treatment-related costs from admission to discharge are fully covered. Some states offer additional transport benefits under their own schemes.

What if the hospital says cashless is not available?

If the hospital is empanelled for your treatment package, they must provide cashless treatment. If they refuse, call 14555 immediately. In emergencies, any empanelled hospital must provide stabilization and initial care.
